PickGuru, the new low-stakes social gaming platform, has launched its Masters golf competition with a guaranteed £5,000 prize pool.
PickGuru started life in the middle of lockdown as a simple spreadsheet-based tipping challenge devised for a group of mates before the 2021 Masters. After the competition went viral, the business concept was formed.
Fast forward 12 months and the business has secured £2.6m in seed funding, is licensed by the UK gambling commission and was selected by SportsPro Media as one of 20 sports tech ideas to invest in 2022.
With the mobile app going live at the start of 2022, PickGuru has launched its unique, category predictor contest for the 2022 Masters golf. The entry fee is £10 with a guaranteed £5,000 prize pool, with the top 10% of entries winning cash prizes.
Users must collate a team of nine golfers from nine different categories, and these teams will compete with each other as putts are sunk and fairways are missed.
The dynamic leaderboard, using real-time data from partners Sportradar, will update positions in real-time, creating an exhilarating second screen proposition.
This is the business’s largest prize pool to date for a single competition, with only the UltimateGuru £25k multi-sport predictor game eclipsing it.
CEO Olly Roland-Jones said: “The Masters golf was the inspiration behind PickGuru.
It has been amazing to see this develop from an idea 12 months ago into a fully transactional business. “We’re absolutely thrilled to launch in the UK market and can’t wait for the golf to start this week.”
